Welcome to Keep Calm Climbing! To keep our sessions safe and welcoming for everyone, please follow these guidelines.
These rules add to - but don't replace - our community-wide policies. Please read these first if you haven't already:
- WhatsApp Rules - group communication, unsolicited DMs, referral links, spam
- Community Conduct - respect, harassment, advertising, conflict resolution
- Event Rules - commitment, cancellations, the strike system
- Safety & Liability - participation at your own risk, the 18+ age requirement
You must be 18 or over to take part. Keep Calm is an adults-only community.
1. Commitment
- If you say you're coming, try to be there
- Some sessions have limited spots or group bookings, so a no-show can cost the group
- If your plans change, let the group know as early as you can
2. Safety First
- Climb within your limits and warm up properly before you start
- For bouldering, learn how to fall and land safely - ask an experienced member if you're not sure
- Never belay on ropes unless you know how to, and always double-check knots, harnesses, and devices
- Be aware of the area below boulder problems so you don't land on or under someone
- You climb at your own risk and are responsible for assessing your own ability
3. Follow Gym Rules
- Every gym has its own rules - read the signs and follow staff instructions
- Pay your own entry directly to the gym
- Respect the venue, the staff, and other climbers using the walls
4. Look After Newcomers
- We get a lot of first-timers, so be patient and welcoming
- Offer to show beginners the basics: reading routes, falling safely, gym etiquette
- Never pressure anyone to climb above their comfort level
5. Share the Wall
- Don't sit under a problem someone is about to climb
- Take turns on popular routes
- Keep bags, shoes, and chalk out of the fall zone
6. Outdoor Climbing
- Outdoor sessions carry real risk and are only for those with the right experience and gear
- Only join an outdoor trip if you are properly equipped or explicitly partnered with someone experienced
- Follow the trip organiser's guidance at all times
7. Be Sound
- Cheer people on and celebrate the small wins
- Help tidy up rental gear and shared chalk
- Stick around for a drink after if you can - the social side is half the fun
