Water Sports Rules

All Rules
Last updated 14 July 2026

Welcome to Keep Calm Watersports! To keep things safe and enjoyable for everyone, please follow these guidelines.

These rules add to - but don't replace - our community-wide policies. Please read these first if you haven't already:

You must be 18 or over to take part. Keep Calm is an adults-only community.

1. Commitment and Payment

  • Spots are usually limited and often prepaid to secure a real venue booking
  • Only sign up if you genuinely plan to attend
  • If you can't make it, tell the organiser as early as possible so your spot can go to someone else
  • If a spot has been booked and paid for on your behalf, you may still owe your share if you cancel late - see Payments, Refunds & Cancellation

2. Swimming and Water Confidence

  • Water activities assume a reasonable level of swimming confidence unless the event says otherwise
  • Be honest with the organiser if you're not a confident swimmer - most venues can still accommodate you safely, but they need to know
  • Life vests or other safety equipment provided by the venue must be worn if instructed

3. Safety

  • Follow the venue or instructor's safety briefing and instructions at all times
  • Check conditions (wind, currents, weather) before going out - the organiser or venue makes the final call on whether it's safe to proceed
  • Stay within the group and the area shown to you, don't go off alone
  • Tell the organiser if you're struggling, feeling unwell, or unsure about anything
  • This is a physical activity at open water: everyone participates independently and is responsible for their own safety, fitness, and decisions. Organisers arrange access but are not responsible for injuries

4. Sun and Water Exposure

  • Bring water, sunscreen, and something to cover up with before and after
  • Barcelona sun and glare off the water are stronger than they look, even at sunset

5. Respect for Venues and Equipment

  • Follow the venue's rules and the instructor's guidance
  • Treat boards, paddles, and any borrowed equipment with care
  • Good relationships with venues keep these events possible - be a good guest

6. Be Sound

  • All abilities welcome, be patient and encouraging with first-timers
  • Keep it social, keep it fun, and help the organiser keep an eye on the group
