Beach volleyball at Mar Bella
Mar Bella is at the north-eastern end of the central beaches, towards Poblenou.
Worth knowing: our regular games do not use Mar Bella. They rotate between Nova Icaria, Somorrostro and Bogatell. This page is a guide to the beach itself.
The beach
Mar Bella is where the central beaches begin to turn sporty and a little more alternative. It is the home of the city's municipal sailing and watersports base, one section is a naturist beach, and local family guides list free public courts here for volleyball and other beach sports alongside Bogatell.
Keep Calm's regular volleyball sessions do not use Mar Bella, so this page is a guide rather than a game listing. If you want to play with our group, the sessions rotate between Nova Icaria, Somorrostro and Bogatell.
What it is like
With the municipal watersports base on the beach and public courts for several sports, it suits an active afternoon rather than a quick dip.
If the courts are taken, ask whether you can join a game, and bring your own ball in case.
Getting there
The nearest stations are on the yellow L4 line around Poblenou and Selva de Mar, each a walk from the beach. The seafront cycle route passes along the whole stretch, so cycling from Barceloneta is easy.
Best for
An active afternoon with watersports on hand, and players who want to try a less crowded patch of sand than Nova Icaria.
Before you go
- Public beach courts are generally first come, first served. Arrive early on summer weekends.
- The beach season runs roughly May to October. Late afternoon to sunset is the busiest time.
- Bring water, sunscreen and a ball. Nets, rules and what is set up change from season to season, so check when you arrive.

Is Mar Bella a nudist beach?
One section of it is a naturist beach and the rest is not, so check which end you are walking towards before you set up.
