Keep Calm is for everyone. Inclusivity is one of our core values, and this policy sets out what that means in practice and how to tell us what you need.
Our commitment
- Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level, background, nationality, age (18+), gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or fitness.
- You do not need a partner, a team, or your own equipment to join most activities.
- All levels genuinely play together. Beginners are not an afterthought, they are a core part of who we are.
What we try to do
- Run activities that beginners and improvers can join without feeling out of place.
- Describe sessions honestly so you can judge what suits you (level, intensity, location, cost).
- Welcome newcomers and help them find their feet.
- Keep our language and communications English-friendly, as a community for English speakers.
Honest limits
We are upfront about what we cannot always promise as a volunteer community:
- Venues are chosen for availability and cost, and not all are step-free or fully accessible. We will tell you what we know about a venue, and you are welcome to ask before you commit.
- Some activities are physically demanding by nature (for example hikes). We describe the demands so you can choose.
- We do not provide specialist equipment, personal assistance, or supervision.
Tell us what you need
The best way for us to include you well is to know what would help.
- Mention any access needs to the organiser when you sign up or before you arrive.
- Ask about a venue's accessibility, the pace or intensity, or anything else you are unsure about.
- Let us know if something about how we run things makes it harder for you to take part. We will do what we reasonably can.
You never have to share more than you want to, and anything you do share is handled under Data & Privacy.
Inclusive behaviour
Inclusion is everyone's job, not just the organisers'. Welcoming newcomers, mixing teams fairly, and challenging unkind behaviour are all part of it. Conduct that excludes, harasses, or discriminates is dealt with under Community Conduct.
Feedback
If we have got something wrong, or you can see how we could be more inclusive, please tell us. See Complaints & Grievance Procedure. We would genuinely rather know.
