Incident & Emergency Procedure

Last updated 27 June 2026

What to do if someone is hurt or there is an emergency at a Keep Calm activity. This is a quick-reference companion to Safety & Liability.

Emergency numbers (Spain)

  • General emergencies: 112 (works for ambulance, police, and fire, in multiple languages)
  • Ambulance / medical: 061
  • Police: 091 (national) or 092 (local)

Save 112 in your phone before sessions.

If you are injured

Minor (you can manage it):

  1. Stop and assess.
  2. Apply basic first aid if you can.
  3. Decide whether to continue or stop. There is no pressure to carry on.
  4. Seek medical attention afterwards if needed.

Significant (needs attention):

  1. Stop immediately.
  2. Ask others for help.
  3. Call 112 if it is serious.
  4. Get to a medical facility.
  5. Tell an organiser once you are safe.

If someone else is injured

  1. Check whether they are okay.
  2. Help only if you can do so safely.
  3. Call 112 if it is serious.
  4. Do not move someone with a possible head, neck, or spine injury unless they are in danger where they are.
  5. Stay with them until help arrives.
  6. Tell an organiser.

Important to understand

  • Organisers are volunteers, not medical professionals or qualified first-aiders.
  • Keep Calm does not provide first aid, medical support, or insurance. See Insurance Disclaimer.
  • Acting to help others is voluntary and at your own discretion.

After an incident

  • Tell the organiser what happened, even if it seemed minor.
  • If it happened at a venue, also report it to venue staff.
  • Make a note of what happened for your own records.
  • Follow up with medical care if needed.

Reporting incidents helps us spot patterns and make sessions safer. It is not about blame.

Venue specifics

Know where the nearest exit and, where relevant, the nearest hospital or clinic is. For hikes and trips, the organiser will usually share key safety information for that location.
